More than 600 Individuals Have Received Help at City of Orlando Family Assistance Center

City Encourages Community to Continue to Spread the Word that Help is Available

WHAT:

Today, the City of Orlando announced it has served more than 600 individuals who have been affected by the Pulse tragedy at its Family Assistance Center (FAC). The FAC, hosted by the City of Orlando in partnership with federal, state, local and community agencies, serves as the critical connection between victims and the important services they need as part of their recovery.  It is a supportive, inclusive and safe environment for everyone.

Individuals visiting the FAC can get support from 35 different on-site agencies, that offer services and assistance for things like travel, lodging, funeral services, child care and counseling.

Starting Monday, June 20, CareerSource Central Florida will be on site to help victims and family members determine eligibility and apply to receive unemployment benefits from the state.

Co-locating participating agencies at the FAC prevents victims and their families from having to navigate the process of obtaining these services alone, visit the various agencies individually, make dozens of phone calls or spend hours waiting in line to get service from just one organization.

The City encourages anyone who needs help to contact the dedicated hotline at 407.246.HELP or visit the City’s website at cityoforlando.net/familyassistancecenter to receive information and start the process for accessing all of these resources.

The FAC is currently temporarily located at Camping World Stadium and will be open Monday through Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. this week. The City is working with its partners on both short and long-term plans to ensure the needs of the victims of this tragedy are met moving forward.
